That was exactly the case in one of our recent office acoustic improvement projects in Zurich. The client had a beautiful meeting room with exposed concrete walls and an industrial design. It looked great, but during meetings and video calls, people struggled to hear each other clearly.
The challenge: great design, bad acoustics
Concrete is beautiful, durable, and timeless, but it’s also one of the hardest materials for sound absorption. Every word bounced around the room, creating an echo that made discussions uncomfortable and calls frustrating.
The goal was clear: improve the acoustic comfort of the room without compromising its raw, industrial aesthetic.
The solution: acoustic panels on the ceiling
We began the project with a consultation to understand the client’s needs and analyze the room’s acoustic behavior, taking into account the visible pipes on the ceiling to carefully plan the installation and position the panels around them. Based on our expertise, we recommended and installed Ecophon acoustic ceiling panels, that would effectively reduce reverberation while blending seamlessly into the space.
By placing the panels on the ceiling, we were able to:
- Improve speech clarity during meetings and calls
- Reduce echo and background noise
- Preserve the minimalist, industrial design
